JOB TITLE : MD - KENYA
REPORTS TO : CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER (CEO)
1. JOB PURPOSE :
Primary responsibility to develop, lead and manage the company's operations in Kenya, with priority attention to:
- Establishing a retail channel through direct run branches and distributors / dealers
- Setting up a projects channel serving the Kenyan and other African markets
- Delivering against agreed revenue and EBITDA targets and action plans
- Building the strongest downstream channel for solar energy solutions in Kenya and subsequently in other African countries
- Effectively managing all critical stakeholders including but not limited to finance partners, distributors / dealers, corporate customers, government authorities, and potential sub-contractors
- Managing the company in Kenya in compliance with all local regulations
DIMENSIONS OF AFRICA BUSINESS :
- FY 18-19
Revenue : $3mln USD
EBITDA : breakeven
50-60 personnel, 5-7 branches
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES IN AFRICA :
- Establish the company in Kenya and recruit, motivate, and retain key staff (sales managers, finance, operations, technical)
- Rapidly scale the company's core retail sales of solar water heating systems, and solar PV systems - initially through direct selling
- Develop and grow the nascent Projects business for commercial solar water heating and commercial PV
- Develop 3rd party finance partners
- Meet sales targets within receivables / inventory guidelines
- Establish the company brand as a premier solar solutions company in Kenya
- Coordinate procurement from the Indian parent and possibly other suppliers
- Coordinate supply and distribution throughout the African continent but starting in Kenya
- Lead by example, by personally carrying out comprehensive audits and performance reviews at branch level where appropriate
- Roll out the Company's existing standardized branch level operating procedures
- Regularly adjust pricing to meet gross margin and profitability targets in cooperation with line management
- Manage cash flow-planning and cash optimisation for the Kenya operation
- Implement and monitor key financial controls and policies
- Create a strong culture of cost control, and closely monitor operating and capital expenditures
- Maintain strict inventory controls - sign-off stock reconciliation every month when applicable
- Ensure monthly compliance with bank reconciliations, and sign-off
- Implement training and induction programme for all recruits
- Implement HR policies and guidelines and ensure adherence
- Create a strong, professional team of technicians able to manage retail and project level installations and after-sales service
