Job Overview :
The Education Counselor provides guidance and support to students regarding academic, career, and personal development. The counselor helps students make informed decisions about their educational paths, career opportunities, and personal growth. The role involves offering one-on-one counseling sessions, providing resources, and facilitating educational programs to foster students' success.
Key Responsibilities :
- Academic Counseling: Guide course selection, academic performance, and study techniques to help students succeed.
- Career Guidance: Assist students in exploring career options, selecting appropriate courses, and planning for future employment.
- Personal Support: Offer counseling and advice on managing stress, time management, and addressing individual challenges that may affect academic performance.
- University/College Admissions: Guide students through the college or university application process, including preparing for standardized tests, writing personal statements, and researching institutions.
- Workshops and Seminars: Organize and conduct workshops on study skills, career planning, and stress management.
- Parent and Teacher Collaboration: Communicate with parents and teachers to discuss student's progress and address any concerns regarding their academic or personal development.
- Resource Provision: Provide information on scholarships, financial aid, internships, and extracurricular activities.
- Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of counseling sessions, student progress, and other relevant documentation.
- Follow-up: Monitor students' progress and provide ongoing support to ensure they stay on track with their educational and career goals.
- Crisis Intervention: Identify students in crisis and provide immediate support or refer them to appropriate professionals as needed.
Qualifications :
- Education: A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Counseling, Psychology, Education, or a related field.
- Experience: Previous experience in educational counseling or a similar role is preferred.
Skills :
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work with diverse student populations.
- Knowledge of academic systems, educational resources, and career development strategies.
