Position Title : Academic Counsellor
Job Summary :
The Academic Counsellor will provide comprehensive academic advising and counseling to students, assisting them in achieving their educational and career goals. The successful candidate will offer support in course selection, academic planning, and career guidance, while also addressing any personal or social challenges that may impact students' academic performance.
Key Responsibilities :
1. Academic Advising :
- Assist students in developing educational plans aligned with their academic and career goals.
- Guide students in course selection, registration, and academic progression.
- Monitor students' academic performance and provide timely interventions and support.
2. Career Counseling :
- Help students explore career options and develop career plans.
- Provide information on job market trends, internship opportunities, and graduate school options.
- Conduct workshops and seminars on career development, resume writing, and interview skills.
3. Personal Counseling :
- Address students' personal, social, and emotional concerns that may affect their academic success.
- Refer students to appropriate campus resources or external agencies for additional support.
4. Support Services :
- Collaborate with faculty, staff, and other campus resources to support student success.
- Coordinate and facilitate academic support programs, such as tutoring and mentoring services.
- Participate in the development and implementation of student retention strategies.
5. Administrative Duties :
- Maintain accurate and confidential student records.
- Prepare reports on student progress and counseling activities.
- Stay updated on academic policies, procedures, and resources.
Qualifications :
Education : Master's degree in Counseling, Education, Psychology, or a related field.
Experience : Minimum of 2 years of experience in academic advising or counseling in an educational setting.
Skills :
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to work with a diverse student population.
- Proficiency in counseling techniques and career assessment tools.
- Knowledge of academic policies and educational resources.
- Strong organizational and time-management abilities.
Preferred Qualifications :
- Experience with student information systems and academic advising software.
- Certification from relevant professional organizations (e.g., National Board for Certified Counselors).
- Experience in developing and facilitating workshops and training sessions.
Working Conditions :
- The position involves working in an office environment within the institution.
- Occasional evening or weekend work may be required to accommodate student needs.
